Junior Sisk

Vocals & Guitar

Junior Sisk is widely regarded as one of the leading voices in traditional bluegrass music today. A proud native of the Virginia Blue Ridge, Sisk has become a standard-bearer for the hard-driving, emotional style that defines classic bluegrass. With roots deeply planted in family tradition—his father a songwriter and guitarist, his mother a singer—Sisk began playing music at age 14 and never looked back.

Inspired early on by legends like The Stanley Brothers, Larry Sparks, Dave Evans, and especially the Johnson Mountain Boys, Sisk initially made his mark as a songwriter in the early 1990s, penning enduring hits for the Lonesome River Band such as “Game (I Can’t Win)” and “Tears Are Blinding Me.”

His performing career took shape with influential roles in Wyatt Rice & Santa Cruz and Blueridge, where he helped shape a powerful blend of modern and traditional bluegrass. In 1998, he formed Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice, releasing Sounds of the Mountains on Rounder Records. After a return to the group in 2006, Sisk launched a successful run with Rebel Records that included the breakthrough 2011 album Heart of a Song, which won IBMA Album of the Year in 2012. That same year, his co-written anthem “A Far Cry from Lester and Earl” won IBMA Song of the Year, solidifying his place as a torchbearer for traditional bluegrass.

His accolades continued with IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year in 2013, SPBGMA Bluegrass Band of the Year in 2014, and Recorded Event of the Year in 2016 for “Longneck Blues,” a duet with Ronnie Bowman. In 2017, SPBGMA again honored Sisk as Male Vocalist of the Year.

Now recording for Mountain Fever Records, Junior Sisk has released three albums with the label. His 2020 release, Load the Wagon, became his most successful to date, spending an impressive six consecutive months at #1 on the National Survey Chart during the pandemic. The album sparked multiple IBMA nominations in 2021, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year (“Just Load the Wagon”), and Male Vocalist of the Year.

With a brand-new single, “I Wanna Be Where You Are,” now available, Junior Sisk is gearing up for the next chapter in a career defined by authenticity, heart, and a steadfast dedication to the sounds of bluegrass tradition.
